This year’s theme for Dementia Action Week is raising awareness of the importance of early diagnosis.

There are currently estimated to be 982,000 people with dementia in the UK, this is expected to increase to 1.4 million by 2040.

It is estimated that 1 in 3 people in the UK living with dementia do not have a diagnosis.

In Dorset we have over 8,500 people on the Dementia register with just under 2.5% of these recorded as early onset dementia.

Around 5,300 of those with a recorded diagnosis are female, compared to 3,250 male.

80% of those with a recorded diagnosis have 3 or more long term conditions.
