population and between different groups in society[^2^]. They are influenced by a range of factors including socioeconomic status, certain protected characteristics, belonging to vulnerable or excluded groups of society, and geography[^2^]. Here are some strategies that can be employed to tackle health inequalities: 1. **Restoring NHS Services Inclusively**: This involves ensuring that healthcare services are accessible and inclusive to all, regardless of their background or circumstances[^1^]. 2. **Mitigating Against Digital Exclusion**: As healthcare services increasingly move online, it's important to ensure that everyone has access to digital resources[^1^]. 3. **Ensuring Datasets are Complete and Timely**: Accurate and up-to-date data is crucial for understanding health inequalities and developing effective strategies to address them[^1^]. 4. **Accelerating Preventative Programmes**: Preventative healthcare can help to reduce health inequalities by catching health issues early before they become serious problems[^1^]. 5. **Strengthening Leadership and Accountability**: Strong leadership and clear accountability structures are needed to drive efforts to reduce health inequalities[^1^]. 6. **Influencing Multi-Agency Action to Address Social Determinants of Health**: The NHS works with integrated care systems (ICSs), local authorities, and local communities to address the social determinants of health[^1^]. 7. **Understanding Needs and Taking the Right Actions**: It's important to understand the specific needs of different groups and take appropriate actions to address these needs[^3^]. 8. **Balancing Universal Provision with Targeted Services**: While healthcare services should be universally available, targeted services may be needed for certain groups to address specific health inequalities[^3^]. 9. **Taking Cost-Effective Action**: Any actions taken should be cost-effective to ensure that resources are used efficiently[^3^]. 10. **Implementing the Core20plus5 Framework**: This is NHS England’s approach to tackling health inequalities. It focuses on improvements for the most deprived 20 per cent of the population (core20), reducing inequalities for particular population groups identified locally (plus) and accelerating improvements in five clinical areas (5)[^4^]. It's important to note that most of the fundamental factors driving inequalities in health are beyond the responsibility of the healthcare system, such as our education system, economic and community development in our most deprived neighbourhoods, employment levels, pay and conditions, and availability and quality of housing[^1^]. Therefore, a multi-faceted approach that involves various sectors of society is needed to effectively tackle health inequalities.">

The Dorset ICS Health Inequalities programme aims to improve access, enhance the experience of services for everyone and seek to improve outcomes thereby reducing health inequalities. user-select-text" aria-label="Sent by Copilot: Health inequalities are systematic, unfair, and avoidable differences in health across the population and between different groups in society[^2^].

The NHS Long Term Plan placed tackling health inequalities at the heart of NHS goals for this decade.
