A massive congratulations to everyone who worked on the Every Drop, Every Cup, Every Bite Counts hydration campaign, which won the Infection Prevention and Control category at this year's Nursing Times Awards!
What is Every Drop Counts?
The Every Drop, Every Cup, Every Bite Counts campaign was first launched in 2023 as a way of encouraging patients and care home residents to drink more.
It has been adopted by a number of local health and care organisations who have seen positive changes for their patients and residents.
You can find out more about the campaign on the Stay Well Dorset website.
What the judges had to say:
“The Dorset Hydration Project aims to improve hydration among older people, reducing urinary tract infections, falls, and antibiotic use, while supporting national goals on antimicrobial resistance. The judges were impressed by the initiative’s engaging, multidisciplinary approach and its clear benefits for patients, staff, and relatives. A fun and engaging project but with a serious message that was clearly focused on patient outcomes. The team’s passion and holistic vision left a lasting impact, making this innovative work a model for widespread adoption and transforming care across communities.”

A word from our winning team:
“It has been such a privilege to represent NHS Dorset at the Nursing Times Awards 2024 with colleagues from across the integrated care system. We had an amazing time celebrating the hard work that has gone into improving lives in our community.
“Being recognised on a national level gives us a great opportunity to spread Dorset’s hydration project as far and wide as we can!”
