- As a Community of Practice, champions meet alternate months to share what they have been doing in their area/department. This might be working on a leaflet or telling their colleagues about health literacy.
- Champions at DCH are involved in the review of Patient Information Leaflets produced by staff.
- Champions have also been involved in helping write a Communications with Patients Policy for the Trust which includes guidance on health literacy for staff producing or communicating information to patients (i.e. everyone!)
- We held a study day in September 2024 – Health literacy was high on the agenda – with champions exploring the use of Forum Theatre to learn the importance of health literacy.
- Health literacy awareness sessions prove popular and score a whooping 4.8/5!
- Trained more than 450 members of staff/students across the Trust (since 2021). Here are some quotes from delegates;
- “It was good to discuss what we feel are the challenges patients and clinicians face with regard to health literacy.”
- “Engaging session with lots of resources and information.”
- “I understand the importance of health literacy for everyone.”
- All library staff are NHS-trained Health Literacy trainers.
- We have a Padlet which shows you what health literacy champions are doing across the Trust. Click here to view the Padlet.
