Health Sciences University (HSU) is based in Bournemouth and has been a specialist higher education provider since 1965. It provides high quality education and training, research, clinical and consultancy services in health sciences including chiropractic, radiography, physiotherapy, psychology, sport rehabilitation, medical ultrasound and sport & exercise sciences. The institution also offers a range of clinical services and diagnostic imaging (including an open MRI scanner, ultrasound and x-ray), providing support to the NHS, other healthcare providers and support for the health and wellbeing of the local community, with around 45,000 patient visits to the site per year. A new state-of-the-art rehabilitation centre at HSU is currently under development and due to open in September 2022, supported by funding from the Dorset LEP. This will combine a fully integrated rehabilitation clinic with leading-edge teaching and applied research. In addition to expanding the university’s applied research portfolio, and working closely with partners across the Dorset ICS, the new centre will provide opportunities to develop, pilot and evaluate healthcare innovations for a range of health conditions, prior to adoption across the wider system.
