As a carer, you are entitled to a free flu vaccination from the NHS. Vaccinations play a vital role in protecting both yourself and the person you care for, especially if they are older, have a long-term condition, or a weakened immune system.

Why it matters:

  • Flu can make you very unwell, and as a carer it may be hard to take time off

  • It’s one less worry in the winter months when illnesses are more common

How to use this right:

  • Tell your GP surgery or pharmacy that you are a carer and ask for the free flu jab

  • You don’t need to receive Carer’s Allowance to qualify

  • Some people may also be eligible for a free COVID-19 booster, so it’s worth checking at the same time

If you feel your right (and choice) to request a free flu jab is not being met, you can contact:

Tip: Book your flu jab early in the season to make sure you’re protected before flu starts spreading in the community.
